The Iconographer

Achilleas Kyriacou has been dedicated to practising the sacred art of Byzantium iconography for many years. Originally having little knowledge about icons, their theological aspect and how they are made, he was introduced to fr. Alexiou, a Greek Orthodox priest from Alexandroupolis, Greece, and a Master Iconographer.

Fr. Alexiou was at that time on a three year stay in the UK. From this introduction or more precisely, by this Godly providence, Achilleas developed a desire to learn all about iconography and to try his hand at it. Fr. Alexiou was kindly willing to become teacher to the keen student. Very quickly a strong friendship and bond grow between them, and still continues to this day.

Over the years Achilleas has been expanding his knowledge on this God inspired spiritual art of iconography, by research reading, visiting museums and monasteries, and befriending renowned iconographers in Greece, Cyprus and the UK, who are for him an invaluable source and wealth of experience and tradition. Achilleas lives in North London and has his studio in the borough of Enfield.
